Day/night blinds
Alternating sheer and solid bands on one continuous loop — tuned hour by hour for the open-plan living-dining-kitchen that most Featherbrooke homes are built around.
One product, two moods
A day/night (or zebra) blind alternates sheer and solid horizontal bands on a continuous loop. Align the bands and you get filtered light with privacy from the garden or the street; offset them and you get near-solid coverage. For a family that lives most of its day in one connected space — kitchen, dining and TV nook sharing the same wall of glass — being able to tune that light without raising the whole blind is the whole appeal.
Why it suits an open-plan Featherbrooke home
- Privacy without darkness — the classic brief for a street-facing lounge or a living room that looks straight onto a neighbour's patio.
- Zoned light control — set the kitchen bands more open for prep and homework time, the TV nook bands closer to offset for evening viewing, on the same continuous run of glass.
- A clean, contemporary look — fabric ranges from light-filtering through to semi-blockout bands, so the finish can match anything from a fresh renovation to an original Featherbrooke build.
Even fully offset, a day/night blind isn't true blockout — light still seeps at the band edges. Bedrooms that need genuine darkness are better served by a blockout roller or a cellular blind; keep day/night for the living spaces where some filtered light is welcome, not the room where the kids actually need to sleep past sunrise.
Fit and control
Day/night blinds run on standard roller hardware — chain or motorised, with cassette options and a choice of inside or outside mount. Sheer bands are a little more delicate at reach height, so for a playroom or a window near a toy box, a wand-tilt or motorised control is the safer call. It's also worth knowing these fabrics are moisture-sensitive, so an en-suite or steamy bathroom is better suited to an aluminium venetian instead.
Day/night blinds go up in open-plan living areas right across our patch — from Eagle Canyon Golf Estate and Ruimsig's fairway-facing glass to Northcliff's ridge-top lounges and Wilropark's renovated kitchens.
